In Nicholasville, commissioners are citywide representatives, rather than representing a specific district. Commissioners make laws, ensure that they are carried out, and perform administrative functions. All City Commission members were elected in 2022 and will serve through 2024. The mayor, who serves a four-year term, is a fully participating member of the Commission and can vote on all matters.

In addition, it holds a meeting, also known as a workshop, on the first Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the same location. No votes are taken during workshop sessions.
The public is invited to attend all City Commission meetings. Anyone who would like to speak during a meeting is requested, but not required, to contact the mayor’s office in advance to be included in the agenda for a particular session.
